what are apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are funded by the Skills Funding Agency and provide a structured training and development programme for your employees. This is achieved through a combination of paid work and training.

There are two levels of the Apprenticeships framework

* Apprenticeships (Level 2)
* Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3)

Each Apprenticeship framework consists of the following qualifications

* National Vocational Qualification (NVQs)
* Key Skills
* Technical Certificate
* Industry specific qualification

who are apprenticeships for?

Both levels of Apprenticeships are now available to ALL age groups. The qualifying criteria for all Apprenticeships are :-

  • has lived in the UK for at least 3 years
  • is employed for at least 16 hours per week
  • has not already achieved a degree

who sets the apprenticeships standards?

Sector Skills Councils are composed of business representatives from the relevant sector or industry. They decide on the course content within their own sector. Because Apprenticeships have been developed by people who genuinely understand what you do and your business needs, it means Apprenticeships offer relevant, recognised qualifications.
